When your hob and sink cut-outs have been made, oil the exposed cut ends three times before fitting the hob and sink - Note this means they cannot be fitted for a couple of days to allow for oiling and final dry.

When choosing your sink it is advisable to avoid "Under-Mounted Bowls" and "Butler" sinks to prevent water ingress into the "cut end" of the worktop. Water tends to puddle around these types of sinks, and if the "cut edge" is not properly sealed you will inevitably have to replace the worktop. Also these types of sink usually have drainer grooves cut into the surface to one side or the other, and water will tend to sit in these grooves eventually penetrating the worktop. Beech Worktops
